Live Your Best Life

Sometimes being in a slightly unexpected industry can be, well, uncomfortable. For me, talking to friends, families and my past clients about my company has gotten easier with practice. But the truth is, I have family members who still don't know I am launching KellyGreen! ⠀
Sometimes being in a slightly unexpected industry can be, well, uncomfortable. For me, talking to friends, families and my past clients about my company has gotten easier with practice. But the truth is, I have family members who still don't know I am launching KellyGreen! ⠀
⠀
I was listing to a @marieforleo podcast this morning and heard her say something that totally resonated with me. She basically said we may not get everyone on board with our companies, but being proud of what you do is so so important. The second you act shifty or stutter when someone asks you what you do for work, it's over. They smell the fear. And frankly, I have to agree. ⠀
⠀
So, that leads me to Monday. It was hot as hell. I was walking into my favorite little salad haunt and as I looked up, I locked eyes with someone I just KNEW would flip out about my company. (and not in a good way) I promptly went in with a hug like the true extrovert that I am....and then as if on cue, she asked: "are you still doing interior design?" ⠀
⠀
Now, at that moment I had two choices. I could have lied and said yes, and really, I am always still doing a little design work for my past clients (we love each other and it's hard to break up) but the truth is, I have launched a new company and I am SO proud of it. ⠀
⠀
I took a deep breath, made direct eye contact and said, "Oh, I am launching a new company! It's a cannabis lifestyle brand for the chic + discrete. I'll DM you and you can take a peek!" Mic drop. Jaw drop. All the drops. But then it was over. (and it felt f-ing amazing!) ⠀
⠀
I made my salad, went back to my desk and started working on my company like it never happened. And guess what? It doesn't matter. Not everyone will like you. Not everyone will approve of you or your business. Not everyone will understand your message. It won't EVER resonate with some people, but ladies, just do your thing. ⠀
